Catalonia Hotels & Resorts is a chain of family hotels founded by the Vallet brothers. After its beginnings in the real estate sector, the business opened its first establishment in 1983, to become one of the largest hotel chains in Spain. The company currently has 73 establishments in more than 20 different destinations: 56 hotels in Spain, one in Brussels, one in Berlin, one in Amsterdam, one in Porto, 12 resorts in the Caribbean (6 in the Dominican Republic and 6 in Mexico) and one city hotel in Santo Domingo. We are currently the leading hotel chain in Barcelona with more than 3,000 rooms on offer.

All future managers should successfully pass this programme, be willing to put up with the disadvantages of the job, have good interpersonal skills and a cultural background suited to the job

Can you share a success story (with WOW factors) when working with travel advisors?
Working with travel agents helps us a lot in the process of the details and coordination of the event, first because it knows your client better and constantly reminds them that deadlines are approaching or that they have a meeting to choose the cake or table linen, etc., it helps to let nothing be delayed. Once we had an event with a group of almost 200 people, a group of notaries. The travel agent forgot some materials to take notes, among other things, we assist you and try to support you in any situation that arises so that the event is successful.

What is new and exciting that you're looking forward to share with this year's Romance Travel Forum delegates?
I want to know the plans and sales strategies that they offer this year and what is the forecast for this year, in relation to requests for weddings and events

The travel industry is forever evolving. What are some of the trends you're seeing, and what initiatives is your brand developing to support travel sellers grow their business?
We conduct market surveys and draw up feasibility studies focused on the future. We do not seek short-term returns, but rather stick to our vision of continuity, which implies taking meticulous care in the preventive maintenance of our assets. We design our plans with our customers in mind. They are our biggest asset and we seek to constantly exceed their expectations. We work on every last detail to achieve excellent quality standards and conduct internal and external controls to deliver the best quality of service to our guests. We invest in refurbishments and in keeping our properties in perfect condition.

What are your traditional commission structures?
We offer 20% commission on wedding packages for travel agents (AAVV), other additional ones are not commissioned. In relation to the rooms, we offer a competitive net rate for you to place your markup, in the case of groups that are paid through the AAVV and it pays the hotel.

The measures that must always be maintained are: educate and encourage hygiene habits, protect employees and clients from sick individuals, ensure the hygienic handling of products that come into contact with a large number of people.
